The Mission of CASA
Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Ocean County, Inc. is an independent, non-profit organization committed to advocating for the best interest of at risk children in out-of-home placement who are victims of abuse and neglect. The CASA volunteer serves as the child's voice in court and is committed to moving the child towards a safe and permanent home.
Our Kids
According to the AOC, the total number of Ocean County children in foster care during FY10 was 716. These children have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care, residential programs, and group homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment.
As their lives are dramatically changing- having been thrust into a world of social workers, attorneys, caregivers, and therapists, most children are frightened and confused. Stripped of all that is familiar to them- often separated from their siblings and without the comfort of their friends, their childhood is spent being shuffled from one place to another, and adjusting to new schools with every move.
The Challenge
In FY10, it cost approximately $2,000 to provide services to a child in foster care. In Ocean County the starting cost is $713 to provide for a child in foster care. It then varies depending on the case of the child.
CASA is always in need of ordinary people willing to make an extraordinary difference in the life of an abused child. By dedicating 10 to 15 hours a month, you can help one of Ocean County’s children who is waiting for someone to speak up for him/her.
